In February 2020, the Greek America Foundation announced the following schedule for a weekend of events in New York City.
Thursday, May 14
Highly discounted rooms were announced at the planned headquarters hotel, The Plaza, on Central Park South and Fifth Avenue.
The announced room rates were exclusive of taxes. All rooms were subject to availability and were to be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis.
The announced reservation deadline was April 15, 2020.
Nearby hotel suggestions included The Sherry-Netherland, 1 Hotel Central Park and The Park Lane Hotel, among numerous others.
Visitors were also encouraged to arrive early and take in a Broadway show or an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art or MoMA.
4:00pm – Greek America Foundation Board of Directors meeting (location TBD)
7:00pm – Sponsor Dinner (location TBD). This dinner was planned in appreciation of Gabby Awards sponsors and was by invitation only.
Friday, May 15
6:00pm – Registration open
6:30pm – Curtains up for the planned 2020 Gabby Awards Show in the Terrace Room at The Plaza Hotel
8:00pm – Official After Party in the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel. The announced After Party was to include a full Greek-inspired dinner created by the chefs of The Plaza, an open bar with Greek wines and specialty drinks inspired by Greece, and entertainment by Glykeria and her complete orchestra.
Plans also called for a special “Kids Gabbys” room for children 12 and under, with activities planned while parents celebrated in the ballroom nearby.
Saturday, May 16
12:00pm – Cupcake decorating with Katherine and Sophie of Georgetown Cupcake at their bakery in SoHo (two sessions). The planned event was to offer participants a chance to meet the sisters and decorate cupcakes in their kitchen. Limited spots were announced, and the event was intended for Ambassador Members.
3:00pm – 6:00pm – Greek America’s Forty Under 40 Awards Reception (location TBD)
10:00pm – Although not an official Greek America Foundation event, an Antonis Remos concert at Melrose Ballroom was scheduled for Saturday, May 16.
