Help Transform a Young Person’s Life!

Metadrasi

We need new leaders! Our community is aging and as the generations pass, young people are growing up without a meaningful connection to their Greek heritage.

We started Greek America Corps with the young people of our community in mind — to make sure we do our part to provide them with an opportunity to be connected to our valued Greek ideals — as well as the nation of Greece.

Greek America Corps’ primary goal is to instill in young people the very Greek ideals of philotimo, philanthropy and service. We do this by offering them an opportunity to serve something much bigger than themselves.

Whether they’re serving homeless people on the streets and in the soup kitchens of Athens, implementing a stray animal welfare program on a Greek island or supporting the needs of abandoned and at-risk children — the results are the same.

Our education and leadership-based training provides transformative experiences while our cultural programs inspire a love and passion for contemporary Greece.

Don’t take it only from us — hear the students themselves talk about their experiences with our program.

Make an investment today in these young people. Make an investment in the future of the community that we are all a part of and wish to see thrive.

Our goal in 2020 is to send 60 young people to Greece on six different programs supporting the needs of various vulnerable population groups. You can see the different programs here.

Make a donation to Greek America Corps to help us send these young people on these programs.

In addition to the donation form below for general donations, we’ve set up a specific GoFundMe campaign for the Animal Welfare mission to Karpathos and Kasos. Click here to donate.

Acknowledgements

We thank Ms. Patricia Kassis-Lambrecht of Palm Beach, FL for sponsoring our mission to Chios to serve unaccompanied refugee minors. She is doing this in memory of the Kazaglis family, her own family of refugees who fled from Smyrna in 1922 and arrived in Chios before emigrating to the United States.

We thank Dr. Spiro Macris of Wilmington, NC for his sponsorship of two students.

Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, Hierarchal Proistamenos at St. Photios National Shrine in St. Augustine, FL will sponsor 3 students in honor of the first Greek immigrants who arrived in the 1700s and built the first Greek colony in America.

The Order of AHEPA will honor the organization’s century of service by sponsoring one student on the program.

Gregory C. Pappas donated his 52nd birthday to the cause and raised enough money from family and friends’ gifts to sponsor one student.

Testimonials

This program for me personally was a life-changer. I think it has really defined who I am and what I want to do with the rest of my life. I think the people I worked with are great. They’re phenomenal. Everybody really poured their heart and soul into this project and into the kids.

Harrison, 19, Asheville, NC

I would say that this program has been one of the most important steps I’ve taken in my life… It’s kind of motivated me a little bit more to want to offer my services to the world and to offer help to those who are less fortunate – to those who need it.

Ahileas, 24, Philadelphia, PA

These programs matter because it is so educating for our young people… Sometimes it’s easy to think that I’m the only one that wants to help and wants to do something to change things. But here I am with a group of people my age that all feel the same way and all want to do something to impact those around them.

Olivia, 21, Louisville, CO

I’m immensely grateful for this opportunity. It has exceeded my expectations and therefore I do believe that, in the future, I would like to become a benefactor of this program or something that does similar work because I do believe that — the opportunity that I’m having right now — many others should have… Whatever experiences I’ve had thus far and what I’m taking here are going to make me a more responsible and more accountable citizen of my community, of my country and of the world.

Bruno, 25, Rochester, NY

This program has given me an education that simply cannot be taught in a classroom. After five years of attending undergraduate and graduate school, I knew something was still missing… While my path isn’t exactly clear moving forward, this program has allowed me to realize that my passion for helping those in need exists as strongly as ever.

Heather, 23, Southampton, NY

I think these programs are very, very beneficial to open the eyes of the youth to be able to bring these experiences back to their communities and back to their towns and spread the message of ‘philanthropia,’ and to be a good person and to help — to give to those less fortunate.

Paul, 26, Chicago, IL

I think this program teaches you to have empathy and compassion for people who might not be similar to you, who might be coming from a different place and who might have a different background or different ethnicity or religion than you.
