Recognizing his work in promoting Hellenism and Greek ideals through numerous projects, the Order of AHEPA honored Greek America Foundation President and Founder Gregory C. Pappas with their “Achievement in Hellenism” award at their 97th international convention in Chicago in July.
Founded by Pappas in 1997, the foundation has disrupted the Greek North American landscape with unique programming targeting young people.
Such programming includes full-semester study abroad scholarships in Greece, Project Hope for Greece fundraising campaigns supporting Greek charities, dynamic events that have built a large community of supporters and an innovative summer volunteer program.
Pappas has also written thousands of informative articles via his website, The Pappas Post, which is read by hundreds of thousands of global readers every month. He is also an award-winning producer of numerous Greek-inspired documentaries and short films that have brought to the fore relatively unknown stories from throughout Greek history.
While accepting his award before more than 800 AHEPA members, Pappas announced the Greek America Foundation’s plans to launch a new initiative called the Greek America Corps. The initiative will aim aims to build “an army of good” from the United States and Canada that supports charitable and humanitarian initiatives in Greece during year-round volunteer missions.
