Niko Roros is the newest member of Team Greek America, our virtual team of athletes who compete for a cause bigger than themselves by creating their own or participating in organized races to raise funds for our charitable endeavors.
Niko, a Baltimore, Maryland native, soccer player and youth coach, is planning to run a specially coursed 12K on Saturday, June 12, around the magnificent city of Rome, Italy.
The 24-year-old has been living in the Italian capital for the past year studying at the Soccer Management Institute to receive his master’s in sports management and soccer coaching. He has also been playing as a goalkeeper for the soccer club Rome City SC.
Along the route, Niko will make stops at some of Rome’s most iconic historic sites including the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Altar della Patria, Pantheon and Fontana di Trevi, among others.

His fundraising goal is $10,000 with proceeds to benefit our Project Hope for Greece #ChildrenOfGreece campaign supporting six Greek children’s charities we’ve selected based on their excellent track record. As of April 2021, our campaign has already disbursed $40,000. Click here to see our most recent updates.
Niko says he joined Team Greek America in hopes of inspiring others to follow suit and become involved in philanthropy.
“I was inspired to join the movement after seeing all the great work of the Greek America Foundation and how Team Greek America expresses our heritage to the world,” he said. “For me it is important to take the inspiration that I received from others in my life and give it back in any way I can.”
“I have always been close to my Greek heritage and growing up in Baltimore’s Greek community,” he said. “This has shown me how important it is to know yourself, where you come from and know everyone else around you to find yourself and what makes your soul come alive. “
Niko said that our #ChildrenOfGreece campaign resonates with him on a personal level due to his firm belief in child welfare and access to basic resources such as food, shelter and education.
“Children are innocent in this world and only as good as the situation they are put in. The faults of the world are not theirs to burden right now,” Niko said. “The future will never change unless we help the kids of today become the leaders of tomorrow.”
“This fundraiser is the start of many projects that I hope to be a part of with the Greek America Foundation,” Niko said. “With this I want to show the Greek community — and the world — how you can help make a difference. “
