The Greek America Foundation is proud to announce that the Constantine and Patricia Mavroyannis Scholarship recipients for 2016 are Stathis Megas of University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) and Anna-Maria Taki of New York University.
Both students are Greek nationals. Each student will receive an award of $5,000 to support doctoral research in theoretical physics for the 2016-2017 academic year. Constantine and Patricia Mavroyannis would like to congratulate Stathis and Anna-Maria on their exceptional academic achievements in the field of theoretical physics.
About Stathis Megas
Stathis is entering his second year studying theoretical physics and concentrating on high energy particle physics at UCLA. His research area is modeling holographic superconductors using black holes.
About Anna-Maria Taki
Anna-Maria is entering her fourth year as a theoretical physics PhD student at New York University. Her research area is theory and phenomenology of physics beyond the standard model.
About Mavroyannis Scholarship
The Constantine and Patricia Mavroyannis Scholarship is open to graduate students who are either Greek or of Greek heritage and are enrolled in a PhD program in either theoretical physics or physical chemistry in the faculty of science at a North American university. The $5,000 scholarship is awarded on an annual basis in the fall semester.
The purpose of the Constantine and Patricia Mavroyannis Scholarship is to recognize the importance of education. Specifically, it aims to reward and encourage educational achievement and support Greeks’ contributions to the global scientific community.
The scholarship honors the life and accomplishments of Dr. Constantine Mavroyannis, a career physicist with the National Research Council of Canada, and his wife Patricia.
