The Greek America Foundation is a nonprofit corporation in the state of New York whose mission is to preserve, perpetuate and promote Greek culture, history and ideals. We advance this mission through education, culture, philanthropy and community.
That mission carries an institutional responsibility: to create relevant programs, steward resources carefully, communicate honestly and build an organization capable of serving future generations.
Relevance
Our work must remain faithful to our mission and responsive to the people and communities we serve. We focus on programs that put philanthropy, the pursuit of excellence, philotimo, innovation and education into practice.
We also evaluate our work with an eye toward impact, capacity and long-term value. That means concentrating our resources where the Foundation can contribute thoughtfully, build meaningful relationships and sustain its commitments.
Transparency
Transparency is a continuing practice. We are committed to clear communication about our governance, finances, fundraising priorities and program outcomes. We maintain the records and reporting required of a nonprofit organization and make current organizational and financial information available through appropriate public filings and upon request.
Responsible administration is part of responsible philanthropy. Donations support both the work our community sees and the planning, oversight, partnerships and accountability that allow that work to be delivered effectively.
Responsible Giving to Greece
Our charitable support in Greece is based on documented needs, careful partner review and follow-through. We evaluate each grant or initiative according to the organization, the work being supported and the circumstances at the time. We seek appropriate financial and impact reporting and share the results of our work with our community.
Sustainability
Long-term sustainability is centered on one institutional priority: the Greek America Foundation’s ten-year, $10 million Futures Campaign.
The campaign is building the Futures Fund, a permanent endowment designed to protect the Foundation’s programs, ideals and impact from the uncertainty of year-to-year fundraising and help ensure that our work can continue across generations.
The Futures Fund is intended to provide enduring support for the Foundation’s educational, philanthropic, cultural and community-building work—including scholarships, service through Greek America Corps, assistance for vulnerable communities in Greece and opportunities that connect young people to heritage and purpose.
By investing in the Futures Campaign, supporters help build the financial foundation that allows the organization to plan responsibly, respond when needed and keep its work moving forward long after today’s leadership.
Stewardship connects every part of this commitment: relevant work, honest reporting, responsible giving and a permanent foundation for the future.
