In light of their trip to Greece this summer for our Greek America Corps volunteer program, our team of 11 young adults on the island of Chios have launched a fundraiser with a goal of $1,000 to support our local charity partners.
Our volunteers want to leave a lasting impact on the non-profit organizations they’ve been serving on the island this summer. These organizations continuously inspire our volunteers and support vulnerable populations including unaccompanied refugee minors, abandoned and orphaned children and stray or rescued dogs which have suffered abuse. Click here to donate to the fundraiser.
The volunteers come from throughout the United States and Canada and include undergraduate students, post-graduates and full-time professionals, among others. This year, they’ve made the honorable decision to offer their summer vacation to serve those in need on Chios.
Our partner organizations include METAdrasi, Kivotos Tou Kosmou (Ark of the World), Kivotos Tou Thodori (Ark of Theodore) and the Chios Animal Welfare Society. During our three-week volunteer program on the island, our volunteers support each charity directly through vital service activities.
The aim of our Greek America Corps volunteer program is to instill the Greek values of philanthropy and philotimo in all participants; at the same time, we strive to provide humanitarian aid to our charity partners in Greece.
Our team will decide how to allocate the funds after determining the specific needs of our partners, giving them the opportunity to live philanthropy firsthand. They also hope to motivate others to do the same by supporting their fundraiser and, by extension, Greece.
