The Greek America Foundation is proud to announce A Pre-Lenten Homecoming Journey: Faith and Memory with Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, one of the newest experiences from Homecoming Journeys, taking place February 28–March 8, 2027, in Athens and across the Peloponnese.
At the heart of this extraordinary nine-day journey is the idea of return—not simply to a place, but to the faith, memories and family stories that make Greece feel like home. Traveling in the company of Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, guests will follow a path through sacred landscapes and historic communities, from Athens and Ancient Corinth to Nafplion, Kalavryta, Nafpaktos, Pylos and the villages of Messinia.
The journey will reach its emotional culmination on the Saturday of Souls at Metamorphosis Church, where Bishop Demetrios’s grandparents were married. There, the group will gather for prayer and remembrance, honoring loved ones through the Orthodox tradition of kolyva and sharing a deeply personal connection to the Bishop’s own family roots.
Along the way, travelers will encounter places where Scripture, Byzantine devotion and Greek history meet: Ancient Corinth, Mycenae, Mega Spileo, the Palace of Nestor and Ancient Messene. Monastery visits, village meals, the joyful celebration of Tsiknopempti and unhurried moments of fellowship will create a journey designed not simply to show guests Greece, but to help them feel the meaning of homecoming.
