How the Greek America Foundation Merges Philanthropy and Performance to Create a World Class Celebration
The Greek America Foundation is more than an organization— it is a movement rooted in timeless Hellenic ideals: charity, philanthropy, service, and volunteerism. These values are not merely spoken— they are lived out through every project and program we undertake. Nowhere is this more evident than at the Gabby Awards, our most iconic celebration.
Returning in grand fashion on June 7, 2025, at the legendary Plaza Hotel in New York City, the Gabby Awards will once again bring together hundreds of supporters, honorees, and artists for a night that celebrates excellence and impact within the Greek American community.
But behind the glamour of the red carpet and the dazzle of the spotlight lies something far more meaningful: a community of more than 150 volunteers—- the heart and soul of the Gabby Awards.
Among them are dozens of gifted young singers, musicians and actors, all of whom donate their time and talent to help make the evening unforgettable.

These stars embody the spirit of prosfora— selfless offering— and in doing so, they also receive something deeply meaningful in return: a chance to perform on some of the world’s most prestigious stages.
Imagine a young opera singer, just getting started in her career, volunteering her talent at the Gabby Awards and ready to perform on the world’s most prestigious stage, Carnegie Hall. While walking backstage, awe ensues as the emerging artist is shaken by a photo of none other than Maria Callas.
A few minutes later, another volunteer– this one a jazz singer who came all the way from Crete to perform does a double take backstage as she walks by a photograph of Ella Fitzgerald.

This unique exchange—where service meets opportunity—is central to the philosophy of the Greek America Foundation. We believe that when young people give of themselves, they should also be uplifted. By providing a platform for their talent, we fulfill our mission to inspire, empower, and elevate the next generation of Greek Americans.
“Volunteering isn’t just about helping,” says founder Gregory C. Pappas. “It’s about belonging to something bigger than yourself. It’s about community. And it’s about recognizing that when we give, we also grow.”
As we prepare to welcome our guests to the 2025 Gabby Awards, we are proud to shine a spotlight on the young artists and volunteers who exemplify our mission—not only by what they do on stage, but by the values they represent off stage. This June, they won’t just perform.
They will inspire.
