The Greek America Foundation is proud to announce a $10,000 grant to Ronald McDonald House Charities Greece. The grant will support covering the final costs for constructing and equipping the Ronald McDonald Family Room and ensuring the proper and smooth beginning of its operation.
Gregory Pappas presented the grant to RMHC Greece Executive Director Dafni Tsakyraki, together with Achilleas Voutsinas, who helped facilitate the relationship between the Greek America Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Greece— and Steven Tsaroupoulos, a supporter of our projects in Athens.
The grant comes from the foundation’s “Project Hope for Greece” campaign, which has provided more than $980,000 in direct financial support to numerous charitable causes in Greece since launching a decade ago.
“It’s our responsibility to serve the vulnerable populations of Greece,” stated Gregory Pappas, founder of the Greek America Foundation, adding that “Greek Summer is great, we all love the sun and the sea, but there is a responsibility, or rather a burden, of claiming to be of Greek heritage. And that burden is to carry and support Greece and her people.”
The Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Agia Sophia Children’s Hospital in Athens will provide a comfortable space where families can rest and recharge just minutes away from their child’s ward.
Located in a disused property within the hospital grounds and spread over 3,300 square feet, the Family Room will provide parents of young patients with a private place to have a meal or take a shower before returning to their child’s bedside – all while remaining close to their children being treated in the wards.
Guests will be welcomed to the Family Room with compassion and hospitality so that they can mentally recharge away from the clinical environment to stay strong for each other.
Hospital leaders around the world increasingly understand that accommodation and support for families contributes to high-quality, family-centered care.
The Family Room will feature a kitchen with snacks, private bathrooms, sleeping rooms, laundry facilities, internet access, a quiet room and a seating area with a TV. The space will also include three family suites for overnight stays.
