We’ve always said that philotimo isn’t something you define—it’s something you do.
And over the past two decades, we’ve done a lot. Together.
Many of you have helped send young people to serve vulnerable communities in Greece through our Greek America Corps volunteer program—feeding the hungry, comforting the forgotten, and offering hope where hope is in short supply.
This summer, our volunteers taught a classroom of disenfranchised young adults how to do something we all do often and take for granted—make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (keep reading to see the photo).
But this wasn’t only a lesson on how to build a sandwich. It was an activity created specifically for a goal in mind: to help the student practice active listening during step-by-step instructions. Everyone made their own sandwich, and for every student, it was their first time trying peanut butter!
That moment reminded us: even small gestures can echo for a lifetime.
Check out this video recap highlighting the inspiring work of our young North American volunteers.
But Greece’s needs don’t take a vacation. Hunger doesn’t rest in July. Loneliness doesn’t pause in August.
Our Greek America Corps volunteers are working daily in soup kitchens, shelters, classrooms and children’s homes across the country. They’re working alongside our trusted partners to gather food from farmers markets that will be served to families in need.
These aren’t just “programs” that the Greek America Foundation has created—they’re lifelines. And behind every one of those moments is you.
Here’s what your support can do:
- $2,500 sponsors one volunteer, covering lodging, meals, and program costs.
- $500 supplies urgently-needed books and learning materials for children.
- $350 provides a shared meal for our entire volunteer team—nourishing those who spend their days nourishing others.
- Any amount fuels compassion in action and brings dignity to those who need it most.

We know you understand this. Because you’ve walked beside us from the beginning.
If you believe, like we do, that Greek ideals matter—then help us live them out. Not just with words or memories, but with impact.
Goal: $15,000 | Deadline: September 1, 2025
We’re raising $15,000 by September 1, 2025 to support our volunteers and the communities they serve across Greece. Every gift—no matter the size—helps us reach that goal.
Track our progress in real time and help push the needle forward:
Let’s cross the finish line together. Because philotimo is a team effort.
