The Greek America Foundation is proud to announce the launch of Homecoming Journeys, a new travel initiative designed to bring people closer to Greece through meaningful, intimate, and deeply personal experiences.
More than tours, Homecoming Journeys are curated encounters with the people, places, stories, flavors, traditions and living culture of Greece. Each journey is designed to move beyond the surface of travel and create a deeper connection to the country — not only as a destination, but as a source of identity, memory, inspiration and belonging.
For many in the diaspora, Greece is more than a place on a map. It is a family story. A summer memory. A language heard around a kitchen table. A village, an island, a city street, a name, a song, a recipe, a photograph. For others, Greece is a place they have come to love or dream about through its history, hospitality, culture, beauty and enduring spirit.
Homecoming Journeys was created for all of them.
Through small-group experiences led by chefs, artists, writers, cultural leaders, wellness experts, storytellers and friends of the Foundation, each journey will offer a thoughtful way to experience Greece through a specific lens. Some journeys will explore food and regional culinary traditions.
Others will focus on wellness, heritage, history, art, service, nature, conversation and connection. All will be rooted in the same belief: that Greece is best understood not by passing through it, but by entering into its rhythm.
The mission of Homecoming Journeys is also directly connected to the broader work of the Greek America Foundation. For nearly two decades, the Foundation has created programs that connect Greek America with Greece through education, philanthropy, culture and service. From volunteer programs and youth leadership initiatives to humanitarian support and cultural programming, the Foundation has worked to keep Hellenic ideals alive, active and relevant.
Homecoming Journeys expands that mission in a new direction. It invites people to experience Greece in ways that are purposeful, personal and connected to the communities, traditions and stories that make the country so extraordinary.
“These journeys are about belonging,” said Gregory C. Pappas, founder and chairman of the Greek America Foundation. “They are about creating experiences that help people understand Greece not only as visitors, but as participants in a living culture. Whether someone has deep Greek roots or simply feels drawn to the country, we want these journeys to feel like a return — to beauty, to meaning, to memory, to community.”
Each Homecoming Journey will be intentionally designed with care, depth and a strong sense of place. The goal is not mass tourism, but meaningful travel. Not checklists from Trip Advisor, but connection to real people and off-the-beaten-track places. Not simply seeing Greece, but feeling it. Experiencing it.
The inaugural Homecoming Journey will take place in Western Crete with celebrated chef, author and restaurateur Mina Stone. Mina Stone’s Culinary Journey to Western Crete will offer guests an intimate exploration of Crete through food, landscape, tradition and the island’s unmistakable spirit of hospitality. The journey will introduce participants to the flavors, stories and people that make Crete one of the most compelling regions of Greece.
