For nearly two decades, the Greek America Foundation has brought our community together in some extraordinary places. We filled Carnegie Hall. We celebrated at The Plaza and Disneyland. We gathered on Hollywood Boulevard and Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, and honored our immigrant story at Ellis Island.
This year, we’re coming home.
On November 20, 2026, we will gather at The Sanctuary on Roosevelt Island, just across the bridge from Astoria on the east, and Manhattan to the west, in New York City for Greek America Honors: Our Greektown. Generously hosted by The Sanctuary, the evening will bring the Gabby Awards home, celebrate Greek America’s Forty Under 40 Class of 2026 and begin a new annual tradition for the Greek America Foundation family.
Our homecoming begins with a place in our hearts that so many of us carry inside us.
Perhaps yours was Halsted Street in Chicago, the Danforth in Toronto, Park Extension in Montreal, High Street in Newark or Astoria in New York. Perhaps it was a single diner, a church hall or your grandparents’ kitchen. Wherever it was, you knew the feeling: someone knew your family, there was always another chair at the table, and the stories belonged to all of us.
Our own Greektown was where our parents and grandparents built new lives while holding on to the people and places they had left behind. In its coffee shops and family businesses, Greek schools and neighborhood festivals, they made something of their own. They worked, raised families, helped newcomers find their footing and gave the next generation a place to belong.
That is the spirit we want celebrate on November 20.
We are reimagining our awards around the human stories at the heart of our community. Behind every achievement is a life: the people who encouraged someone to keep going, the sacrifices that opened a door, the moment someone decided to use what they had to help somebody else. Those stories deserve to be told, heard and carried forward.
This year, we will celebrate our Gabby Awards honorees, including those whose lifetime of work and service has left a lasting mark, alongside Greek America’s Forty Under 40 Class of 2026. Together, they remind us how many ways there are to build a community—through leadership and creativity, generosity and perseverance, and the everyday decision to show up for others.
We will also meet the teenagers of Gen G, who are already changing the world in their own way. Through service, fundraising and projects rooted in the needs they see around them, these young people are discovering that they have something to give right now. Their stories belong alongside those of the people we honor, because the next chapter of Greek America is already being written.
And we will share the spirit of Greek America Corps, our volunteer program connecting young adults from North America with meaningful service in Greece. Working alongside nonprofit partners and the communities they serve, our volunteers put philanthropy and philotimo into practice. They deepen their connection to Greece by giving their time, their care and their effort. Their experiences remind us that heritage lives in what we do for one another.
Bringing these generations and experiences together is what Greek America Honors is about. We want to create an annual gathering in New York City where old friends reconnect, new friendships begin and the whole Foundation family can see itself in the stories being shared. A place to recognize the people who built our communities and get to know those who are helping shape what comes next.
You do not need to have grown up in a Greektown to feel at home here. Whether your connection to Greece is inherited, discovered or chosen, there is a place for you at this gathering.
On November 20, we will come together to celebrate the lives that have touched ours, the young people giving us hope and the bonds that make us a community.
