Devastating earthquakes have hit Turkey and Syria and we, the Greek America Foundation, with our thousands of friends and supporters throughout the United States and Canada, want to show our solidarity with our affected brothers and sisters.
While politics and governments often try to keep us separate and at odds, our work and experience through music, culture, and compassionate humanitarianism has shown that we have much more in common with the people of these countries than politicians and the media would like us to believe.
With a proven track record in supporting humanitarian crises in the past, we are proud to launch this campaign in North America to gather support for the organizations in Turkey that are on the ground trying to keep people alive.
As we did in the past, when devastating earthquakes struck the island of Lesvos, we dispatched teams and determined how best to implement our support. At that time, we distributed almost $100,000 in direct food support to more than 800 families that lost their homes. Our support mechanism, which included meal tickets from local grocery stores distributed to families in need, not only supported the local economy but provided essential food for families in need for more than two years after the earthquake. Our program, implemented with local authorities, gave families the food they needed while they sought to rebuild their homes and lives.
Although it is too soon to understand the full scope of the disaster— and we defer to local emergency organizations doing their life-saving work on the ground, with the proceeds of this campaign, we want to be in a position to provide support after the dust has settled, implementing a similar program as we did on Lesvos several years ago.
Donate now to our fund and stay connected with us for follow-up as our plans are implemented to make real and impactful support to those in need.
