The Greek America Foundation is proud to announce that celebrated chef, author and artist Mina Stone will lead the inaugural Homecoming Journey, a new travel initiative created to connect people more deeply with Greece through intimate, meaningful and highly curated experiences.
Mina Stone’s Culinary Journey to Western Crete will invite guests into the flavors, landscapes, traditions and spirit of one of Greece’s most extraordinary regions. This will not be a conventional tour, but a small-group experience shaped around food, memory, place and connection — the very things that have defined Mina’s work for years.
Known for her deeply personal approach to Greek cooking, Mina Stone has built a devoted following through her books, her writing, her restaurant work and her ability to tell stories through food that feel at once simple, soulful and profoundly rooted. Her cooking reflects the kind of Greece that is lived around tables, in kitchens, in markets, in villages and in family memory.

For the Greek America Foundation, Mina is not only a respected culinary voice. She is also a longtime friend and supporter of the Foundation’s work. In 2022, she hosted the official welcome dinner for the Gabby Awards at her restaurant inside MoMA PS1 in New York, creating an unforgettable evening that brought together guests, honorees and supporters in the spirit of Greek hospitality and community.
That same spirit will guide this first Homecoming Journey.
The Western Crete experience will offer guests a rare opportunity to travel with Mina through a region known for its rugged beauty, rich culinary traditions, deep history and generous hospitality. The journey will be built around meaningful encounters, shared meals, local flavors and the kind of storytelling that transforms travel into something far more lasting.
This inaugural journey is designed as a full, immersive Western Crete experience — with accommodations, curated meals, guided excursions, local encounters and behind-the-scenes culinary moments woven into one seamless package. Guests will be based in the Chania region, using the city and its surrounding villages, coastlines and countryside as the setting for a journey into one of Greece’s most beloved and storied places.

Over the course of the trip, participants will experience Crete through the lens of food and place: the island’s markets, seasonal ingredients, traditional kitchens, village tables, olive groves, seaside meals and the people who continue to preserve one of the Mediterranean’s most powerful culinary cultures. These are not generic sightseeing stops, but carefully chosen moments meant to reveal the Crete that locals know — generous, soulful, rugged, layered and unforgettable.
The package has been created for travelers who want more than a beautiful vacation. It is for people who want access, context, storytelling and a sense of belonging. From shared meals and regional flavors to cultural visits and intimate conversations, every part of the journey is meant to connect guests to Greece as a source — of identity, memory, inspiration, nourishment and return.
For those with Greek roots, this journey offers a way to come closer to the homeland through taste, story and shared experience. For those who simply love Greece, it offers something equally meaningful: a chance to move beyond the postcard and into the living culture of the island. With Mina Stone leading the experience, guests will encounter Western Crete not only as a destination, but as a table, a landscape, a memory and a homecoming.

Homecoming Journeys was created by the Greek America Foundation to offer a new way of experiencing Greece — not as mass tourism, but as a return to meaning, memory, culture and connection. Each journey will be led by a trusted voice, cultural leader or friend of the Foundation, offering participants a more personal and purposeful way to engage with Greece.
Launching the program with Mina Stone in Western Crete feels especially fitting. Her work has always celebrated the beauty of Greek food without pretense, honoring the ingredients, people and traditions that make the Greek table so powerful.
Mina Stone’s Culinary Journey to Western Crete marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Greek America Foundation — one that brings people to Greece not simply to see it, but to feel it, taste it and understand it more deeply.
