The Greek America Foundation would like to formally thank the A. Fantis School of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Brooklyn, New York, for its generous contribution to our #ChildrenOfGreece campaign.
This month the school made a $1,825 donation which included funds raised from a raffle during its Greek Independence Day Show Webinar on March 25.
The funds will directly benefit our campaign which is supporting six accredited children’s charities doing important work — helping the most vulnerable members of Greek society. We have disbursed $40,000 in grants to our partner charities since launching #ChildrenOfGreece in 2019.
Vethania Stavropoulos, who works as a music and performing arts teacher at A. Fantis, said that our campaign resonated with her and her school colleagues.
“We chose the Greek American Foundation because their mission of partnering with locals in need and delivering hands on assistance to provide hope to others resonated with our cause.”
Vethania said that school administrators had wondered about how to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence Day safely while still making it unique.
“This year’s pandemic brought a lot of sorrow, uncertainty, and troubles for a lot of people globally,” she said. “When faced with the question of whether or not we could come to school safely, brilliant minds came together to make sure that we could be together in person again to learn.”
A. Fantis decided to draw from the main message of the Greek Revolution — the message of hope.
“We thought, ‘What better way to celebrate the legacy of Greek Independence than giving hope to others in need?'” Vethania said. “We are eternally grateful to our Fantis Family for supporting the legacy of those who fought with hope for the deliverance of the Hellenic future.”
