Note: Even though her race was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, Marielena Balouris isn’t letting it keep her from running. Instead, this weekend she will run a “virtual 8K” in her town of Norfolk, Virginia.
Pittsburgh native Marielena Balouris has enthusiastically joined Team Greek America and is running an 8K race to raise funds to benefit the Greek America Foundation.
Turning her hobby into a way to give back, Marielena will join thousands of fellow runners on Saturday, March 21st at 7:30am at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Her race is part of the “Shamrock Weekend,” an annual event in the area.
Marielena currently lives in Norfolk, Virginia, where she works as an anchor and reporter at WAVY-TV, the local NBC affiliate. She loves living by the beach and has a deep passion for her Greek heritage.
Marielena has already begun her fundraiser with a goal to raise $1,000 by the end of her race. See the donation form below and consider donating to help her reach her goal.
About Team Greek America
Team Greek America is a virtual team of athletes who are competing for a cause bigger than themselves by creating their own or participating in organized races to raise funds for our charitable endeavors. Athletes who join Team Greek America raise funds for our Project Hope for Greece #ChildrenOfGreece campaign which supports six accredited children’s charities doing important work to support the most vulnerable members of Greek society.
