Darden Livesay is the newest member of Team Greek America, our virtual team of athletes who compete for a cause bigger than themselves by creating their own or participating in organized races to raise funds for our charitable endeavors.
Darden, a Wilton, Connecticut native who works full-time for the Greek America Foundation, is planning to run a specially coursed 12K on Tuesday, July 20, around Athens.
The 24-year-old is in Greece for the summer co-directing the foundation’s summer volunteer programs, called Greek America Corps, in Athens and Chios.
Along the route, Darden will make stops at some of Athens’ iconic monuments and other sites of interest including the Acropolis, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Panathenaic Olympic Stadium, National Garden, Greek Parliament, the U.S. Embassy and the American School of Classical Studies, among others.
Darden’s fundraising goal is $2,000 with proceeds to benefit our philanthropic and charitable endeavors — especially the Greek America Corps summer volunteer program during which we support our non-profit partners in Greece.
“I’m trying to contribute what I can to this cause because I really believe in it,” Darden says about his motivation for doing the run. “I figured there’s no better way to do that than to challenge myself and encourage my own friends and family to support my efforts.”
Joining Darden for his run will be 24-year-old Baltimore native Niko Roros, a fellow Team Greek America team member who recently completed his own 12K in Rome, Italy, and raised nearly $6,000 in the process.
